My mind is a scary place, let me tell you. It thinks, drives me crazy. All the time. I cannot turn it off. I had a discussion with someone one time about guys having an "empty box". That at times they are literally not thinking about anything. Blank. How is that even possible? I want an empty box. I have been known to obsess and over think about things for far longer than I am willing to admit. It is like that annoying song you cannot get out of your head, but worse. I get stuck on an idea, thought, etc... weeks. My mind just goes in circles. It drives me crazy, and I just want to scream. Where is the off switch!? Sometimes I come to a conclusion, sometimes it just goes away, sometimes it goes away and comes back, sometimes I just feel like a crazy person, and sometimes the crazy just comes out and professes it self in the form of tears, venting, saying things that evoke a, "you're crazy you know that?" Sometimes these thoughts are about little things, sometimes irrational, and sometimes about things of substance and meaning.
What should I eat? What kind of car do I want? Was that the right thing to say? All of the things I should have said to that person. What did that person mean when they said that? What should I do with my life? Is this the guy I'm going to spend my life with? Wow, that guy really does love me. Gods grace and mercy. Gods love. The zits on my face and back making me feel utterly disgusting, I'm convinced it is all people are looking at, and that they must think I'm disgusting too. Smelling.. yep, we all know it is a phobia and obsession of mine. If there are sweets, good sweets that is, in the house.. always in the back of my mind. What do I believe? What's the point? People, certain people will just be on my mind. Am I ever on anyone's mind... and then I wonder what those thoughts are like or how long they last. Sometimes I obsess and worry about imaginary children I don't have yet.
Sometimes I enjoy being too busy to think. I enjoy the fun that wraps your mind up in the bliss of the moment. I enjoy a good book to get lost in. A good movie. Running, dancing, working out, driving... all beneficial to my well being. Being surrounded by family and thinking, how did I get so lucky. Certain peoples hugs.. I melt in and just am. Soul feeding in a way.. the right touch at the right moment can do so much more than those people even realize, or maybe they do, and in that case.. I love you and thank you.
I do not know if there is even a point to all this blabbering. Recently I have been pretty consumed and wrapped up in my own thoughts. The waiting and figuring out times in my life usually lead to a mid life crisis of sorts. I find myself lacking the heart and passion I thought I once had. I find myself feeling defeated. I find myself putting myself down and no longer believing that I could do anything. I find myself asking what is the point far more than I should. I catch myself complaining. Whining. I find myself searching for reassurance. I find myself needing people. I find myself wanting to run away. I find myself blabbing and having a huge pity party on my blog.
When did I go so crazy? I need my happy, easygoing self back. The girl who looked at the world through rose colored glasses. La vie en rose. The dreamer. The girl who was impatient but hopeful. The one who was in love with her life, felt so incredibly blessed. The one who prayed and trusted God with her life.
As I have been all consumed in the crazy of my mind, the one thought that has been drifting around is how people view me. What do they see, what do they say.. what does my life say? I have had a couple people curiously ask me recently what I do outside of work. I felt like I should have a better answer than the one I gave. I say I am a christian, I believe in God. Does anybody even know that? What kind of example has my life been recently? I want to be healthy and in shape. For dinner tonight I had dessert. Yeah, so there's that. How did I get here? Give me strength, dear Lord.
When I was 8 years old, I prayed a simple prayer and asked Jesus to come live in my heart. As I got older, sat in church and Sunday school.. I listened to how we were all sinners and needed to be saved. I was a good kid.. I didn't get it. What filthy rags did I have? So, I fought with my siblings, would that send me to hell? I got a little older. Life happened along the way. I realized I wasn't perfect. I've made countless mistakes, big and small. I think I was 17 when I was baptized. In a smallish lake in Delaware. My uncle baptized my younger sister and I. Simple, real, outside. I love that. People always told stories about how when they found God their life changed, they were different. I was raised with God. I was a good kid, remember? I didn't feel superior.. I felt confused. My walk has been a slow journey. It's fitting.. Maybe God knew I needed slow. I had all that thinking to do. I have not always stayed the good kid along the way. Been lost far more than I would like to admit. Left my God behind too many times. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. I am no where near the Christian I want to be, but I now know that I need a savior. I know what Gods mercy and grace feels like. I know that Gods love is very real. Here's my heart, oh take and seal it. I know that I do not deserve Gods love. But He died for me. For me. For you. I love those scriptures about love. I want that kind of love to shine through me. That is my prayer. Maybe I will finally finish a degree, have a career. Maybe I will travel, or maybe I won't. Maybe I will be a mom one day. Maybe I'll pick up some new hobbies. I don't really worry about all that stuff.. My life will work out. Might be messy, I have many lessons to learn. But.. I want to live a life that is an example. Simply. I want to be able to show people the love that I have come to know. There is so much pain. Life really sucks sometimes. People have told me I care too much, that I need to take care of myself and not give so much for the people who don't deserve it. If God thought like that.. Well, I'd be out. Fill my heart and life with you, Lord. This little light of mine. Let it shine.
What's the point of all this? My life feels like it's been somewhat a wreck of late, say a prayer for me if you think of it. I want to be that little girl who just liked pumpkin pie and spun around in circles with her arms up because she could. Free. Happy. God gives me that. He knows my name. He calls my name and He says, Bridget, share my love. Maybe my journey and trials are to make me stronger, to make me more understanding and loving to others.. That was my thought today. Forgive me when I don't trust you, Lord. Don't give up on me.
I do not know what my life says to others, but I know what I want it to say. I do not have to have it all figured out, but I've got a pretty cool God who does.
Love,
Bridget
